Koke: ‘Atleti simply unlucky’

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke insists they have been “unlucky” in the Champions League so far and can turn the tide against Roma.

It kicks off at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday at 19.45 GMT and anything less than a victory will eliminate the Spaniards from the race for qualification.

“We have to just focus on winning this game, as it all depends on the three points against Roma. Without that victory, the other results are irrelevant,” said the midfielder in his Press conference.

“We played very well against Roma at the Olimpico, but were unable to win. Against Chelsea, we conceded the decider in stoppages and with Qarabag were simply unlucky. We hope to do better tomorrow and get our first win.

“We don’t know how Roma will play tomorrow, as they only need a point, they might go with five defenders. The important thing is that we play our game well.

“This isn’t the most pressure we’ve had in a Champions League game, it’s not as if this is new to us. We just have to stay concentrated and try to win.”

The lack of results in both La Liga and Champions League has seen some supporters turn on Atleti, particularly Antoine Griezmann.

“It’s a complicated situation at the moment for the players. The locker room is united, we are with Griezmann and if he does well tomorrow, he can make peace with the fans.”
