Eusebio Di Francesco announces Patrik Schick will start in the Coppa Italia against Torino tomorrow. “Our mentality must grow in every tournament.”
It kicks off on Wednesday at 16.30 GMT and the winners go on to face Juventus or Genoa in the Quarter-Final.
“I maintain our objective must be to go as far as possible in every tournament, as that is how our mentality will grow overall,” the Coach told Roma TV.
“We must not underestimate any competition, let alone snub it. Roma actually have an advantage in coming so late to the tournament, because it’d be only right to go through the preliminary rounds, the way they do in England with the FA Cup.
“I believe ambition to win every trophy is how you improve. There will be players who have been starters before, even if with Juventus coming up on Saturday, it’s physiologically-necessary to make some changes.”
Edin Dzeko has been suffering from flu symptoms, while Aleksandar Kolarov is rested and Gregoire Defrel injured.
“I need to evaluate Edin, as he hasn’t been well the last few days. The idea is to play Schick upfront. Lukasz Skorupski will certainly start in goal and it’s a good opportunity for him.
“Torino made life difficult for all the big clubs and got a result at San Siro against Inter. As they are not in Europe, they will care a great deal about the Coppa Italia and put out their best line-up.
“We have to focus only on the next game in front of us, regardless of who it is against. Don’t forget, everyone said we’d rest Radja Nainggolan against Cagliari, but instead we must approach every match with the same intensity.”
