Roma have Newell’s Old Boys teenage midfielder Nicolas Castro training with the team after a surprise transfer.
The 17-year-old was born in November 2000 and had already caught the eye of Boca Juniors, but Giallorossi director of sport Monchi intercepted with a winning bid of €600,000 for 70 per cent of his contract.
The remaining 20 per cent stays with his childhood club 9 de Julio de Rafaela.
It’s reported Manchester United and Barcelona had also scouted Castro, who was given a training ground test with the Argentina Under-20 side when he was still only 16.
“Castro is similar to trequartisti like Juan Roman Riquelme and Ariel Ortega, because he tries something special and has great vision,” said Werner, his Coach when he was at 9 de Julio, on romanews.eu.
“I am not exaggerating, you don’t find players like Nico. He has remarkable quality, great dribbling skills, a lot of technique and can read the game well.”
