Bernard in doubt against Roma

Shakhtar Donetsk Coach Paulo Fonseca confirms Brazilian winger Bernard might miss the Champions League clash with Roma.

The first leg in the Round of 16 kicks off on Wednesday February 21 at 19.45 GMT in Ukraine.

They played their first match of 2018 today, beating Chornomorets 5-0.

“We dominated the opponent and showed patience to find spaces, holding the ball and attacking down the flanks,” said Fonseca in his Press conference.

“Bernard has this on-going problem with his shoulder. We will evaluate the situation and see if he can take part in the game against Roma.”

Bernard has been a key figure for Shakhtar this season, contributing nine goals and three assists in 25 appearances.

“It’s very important for us that today’s match was brought forward so we had a competitive game under our belts before the Champions League resumed. It helped us improve our match fitness.”
