Batigol: Roma can beat Barca, Astori…

Gabriel Batistuta believes Roma have what it takes to beat Barcelona but admits ‘only silence’ can express his feelings about Davide Astori.

Batistuta will appear at the Olimpico for the first time in 15 years on Wednesday evening, when Italy take on the Rest of the World in a charity match.

“Going back to the Olimpico is very exciting,” the former Giallorossi striker told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“This is my first time back and I’m curious to see how I’ll feel. Roma? They’ve always been among the top teams, but they’ve missed something.

“The team are playing well under Di Francesco, but the only reason Roma haven’t won another title is because of Juventus, who have it all.

“Barca? Roma can do it. They can beat any team in the last eight.”

Batistuta’s attentions then turned to another of his former clubs, Fiorentina.

“Simeone? Give him a couple of years and he’ll score a few goals. He has desire, he’s sincere and he’s an interesting young player,” added the Argentine.

“Astori? I have no words for what happened. It was a terrible blow, there’s little else to say.

“No words can express how I feel. A club must come together without needing these tragedies. It’s very sad.

“There’s no need to say anything else, just silence.”
