Allegri: ‘Juve always stayed calm’

Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus got the better of Napoli by remaining “calm and not getting overwhelmed by enthusiasm.”

The Bianconeri were trailing for much of the season, and only a month ago were one point clear, but secured the Scudetto with a round to spare thanks to this evening’s 0-0 draw at Roma.

“I am happy because the lads closed this chapter and we have another week to rest. It’s been really tough and we have to compliment Napoli, as they kept the pressure on to the end and won at Sampdoria this evening,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium.

“We work hard, but when it’s time to celebrate after four extraordinary years, it’s right that everyone celebrates. It’s for everyone we worked with at the training ground, the fans too, but the lads are the real protagonists.

“I always thank the players and am sure that it’s easier to achieve objectives with a group of men with these values. It’s not easy to keep the right mentality just a few days after winning the Coppa Italia Final.”

This was not only the seventh straight Scudetto for Juventus, but also the fourth consecutive Double with the Coppa Italia.

“Motivation is always there at Juventus. Next year, there will be some players leaving, others arriving, and the objective will be to be in the running for every objective in March again.

“You have to work on yourself and find the motivation within yourself too, setting personal targets as well as those for the group.

“It’s a wonderful feeling, as it’s never easy to win. There are players here who won all seven titles and deserve Saturday’s salute in front of their home fans. We want to celebrate all together in Turin.”

Allegri was asked where Juve different from Napoli and he seemed to point towards the wild celebrations at the airport after the Partenopei won in Turin, followed rapidly by a 3-0 defeat at Fiorentina.

“I think the greatest strength was keeping calm in all situations. You reach the final objective with one small step at a time. If you get overwhelmed by enthusiasm, you’re going to collapse three days later.

“If you have too many surges and dips of mood, you’re not going to win. Balance is crucial.”
