Sporting stars seek exit after attack

Roma and Napoli transfer targets Rodrigo Battaglia and Rui Patricio could become free agents after the Sporting CP squad was attacked by masked hooligans.

Around 50 thugs invaded the training camp today and physically attacked the team, Coach Jorge Jesus and his staff member Raul Jose.

Bas Dost came off worse and was left with a nasty cut to his head that required stitches, but Battaglia, Rui Patricio, William Carvalho and Marcos Acuña were also targeted.

The club released a statement condemning the attack on a team in turmoil, which missed out on a Champions League spot in the final round of the season.

According to O Jogo and A Bola, players including Argentina international midfielder Battaglia could technically ask for their contracts to be torn up as a result of the incident.

This would make them free agents and rich pickings on the transfer market.

Napoli are also interested, having targeted goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
