UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin says he may not punish Roma ‘for the actions of a madman’ before their Champions League tie with Liverpool.
Liverpool fan Sean Cox was left in a critical condition by two ultras outside Anfield before Roma’s 5-2 defeat in the Champions League semi-finals last month, but Ceferin suggested he would leave the incident to the authorities.
“The debate is continuous and alive,” he told La Stampa.
“I really don’t know whether punishing the club for the unpredictable actions of a madman any would change the situation.
“Ordinary justice needs to be more severe with these subjects. We need collaboration.
“For the match against Liverpool, the Italian government offered great support and the police protected the fans.
“That’s how it should be: to broaden the table when it comes to safety planning.”
