Edin Dzeko chose his top three Champions League goals for Roma this season and admits the volley against Chelsea was “perhaps the best of my career.”
The Bosnian striker sat down with Roma TV to go over his preferred three in Europe this term.
“That kind of goal can come in the first of the last minute. It’s more difficult when you have to make sure you don’t concede,” he said of the toe-poke past the goalkeeper against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Round of 16.
“We defended well as a team and waited for them to make a mistake so we could play on the break, as we did for the goal.”
The top two goals he chose were both against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, starting with the header from an Aleksander Kolarov free kick.
“I saw Alex on the ball and told him in our language to play it to the near post. I strayed offside before coming back on, to make sure I was free. Alex put it right where I wanted.”
Naturally, Dzeko’s favourite was a stunning left-foot volley as he let a long Federico Fazio ball drop over his shoulder.
“The first goal was definitely the best of the season, perhaps the best of my career. I had always dreamed of scoring a goal like that, because they’re not easy, even in training.
“I’m proud of that. Timing is always important and Federico put a great ball in. My finish was good too!”
