Alisson Becker wanted to “thank Roma fans” as he flew out to complete his €75m transfer to Liverpool.
He was pictured at Ciampino airport, having swung round to the Trigoria training centre to empty out his locker, and is expected to have a medical on Saturday.
“I want to thank the Roma fans,” the 25-year-old said to reporters from Sky Sport Italia and ForzaRoma.
He was asked if he was sorry to be leaving Roma.
“I’m sorry guys, but I’ll have to talk later. OK?”
The Brazilian goalkeeper only joined from Internacional for €8m in 2016 and spent the first season as understudy to Wojciech Szczesny, not making a single Serie A appearance.
In the second term, he was a huge success, particularly in the Champions League where they went to the semi-final against Liverpool.
He becomes the most expensive ever goalkeeper, at a cost of €70m plus another €5m in bonuses, while he’ll sign a five-year contract.
Chelsea and Real Madrid had also been interested, but Liverpool showed considerably more determination, especially after Loris Karius continued to make errors in pre-season.
