Roma legend Francesco Totti praises new signing Javier Pastore – “this squad needed him”.
The Argentine arrived from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, and will look to fill the creative void which has arguably existed since Er Pupone retired.
“We all know him, he has quality and consistency,” Totti said, answering fan questions on Twitter.
“This squad needed him, especially at this moment, he’s an exceptional lad who is open to everyone.
“He’s a top player and we’re happy to have him.”
The former Giallorossi captain also discussed the arrival of Justin Kluivert.
“I played with his father, they look the same but as players they’re different. His father was a poacher, a penalty box player, while his son is a sprinter.
“He looks to take you on as often as he can, looking for a one-on-one. He can always put you in difficulty. He’s small and thin but wily. He can be useful for the cause.”
Roma will play Parma on the final day of the 2018-19 season, the same fixture in which they secured the Scudetto in 2001…
“That’s an unforgettable memory and I hope it can be repeated,” Totti said.
“I don’t know if it’s destiy, we Romans have these dreams. It depends on the team.
“Did I sleep before Roma-Parma? Yes, but we were convinced we were going to bring home the result.
“It was impossible to lose with a full stadium behind us, it was right because we’d been top all year. We killed the league off at the right times.
“We had a strong squad and a strong Coach [Fabio Capello].
“We didn’t win the Scudetto before that [against Napoli] specifically so we could win it in Rome, out of respect for the people!”
