Monchi: ’N’Zonzi not closest to Roma’

Roma sporting director Monchi admits interest in Steven N’Zonzi but “he’s not the only one nor the closest one”.

It was Monchi who took the French international to Sevilla, and it’s thought he wants a reunion at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We’re talking a lot about him and many others,” Monchi said in a Press conference from Boston.

“We’re evaluating the market for different roles and one of those is midfield. N’Zonzi is one of the names, but he’s not the only one nor the closest one.

“It’s the moment to think about other names, I know what I want to bring in. I like him, but I like a lot of players and they can’t all come to Roma.

“My job is to make the squad as strong as possible and I’ll work until the end.”

The Press conference was to discuss Alessandro Florenzi’s renewal, and Monchi also spoke about that.

“It’s one of my happiest days since I’ve been at Roma, not just as a sporting director but because I’m starting to love Roma.

“One of our sons has renewed his contract and will remain here for another five years.

“It was not a short negotiation but I’ve always been convinced of a happy ending because he wanted to stay here.

“He had important offers to leave, especially on a financial, level but he preferred to stay. He’s an example of what it means to be a Romanista.”
