A third UEFA competition could reportedly see eight Italian teams play in Europe.
Juventus President and European Club Association chief Andrea Agnelli confirmed the return of a third UEFA tournament on Tuesday.
La Stampa believes the extension to 96 teams is another step towards a ‘European Super League’ explaining continental completion has become ‘bigger, more involved and potentially democratic, with promotion and relegation mechanisms’.
The newspaper notes it is a tournament ‘wanted by the lesser federations’ but adds Italy could benefit with at least two more sides.
Serie A currently has four automatic Champions League places, two Europa League spots and one qualifying berth for the latter.
