Naturally, the Coach and former player had to reserve a moment for Maria Sensi, the wife of ex-Roma President Franco Sensi.
“She was like a second mother to me. I share the pain of the Sensi family, we had seen each other only recently. It’s a very sad day for me.”
On to the game and the Giallorossi need a boost after their surprise defeat to Milan and draw with Atalanta, while preparing for Real Madrid in the Champions League.
“Perhaps my style of working and fitness training means we tend to start seasons a bit slowly, but we certainly expected to have more points under our belts by now. We’ve got to make up for lost time.
“Chievo actually played well in the first half against Fiorentina and the 6-1 result was not a fair reflection of their performance. They’ll want to do well, but we cannot help but go for all three points, as it is the start of an important run of games.
“We should feel confident for the season ahead, even if Juventus have shown themselves to be very strong on the pitch. We need determination and grit, those elements that allowed us to recover from a negative period last season.
“There has been too much talk of tactical systems and experiments. We have to build on the things this team feels confident about, but to focus on these issues creates exasperation.
“I can confirm that Edin Dzeko will start tomorrow, so Patrik Schick is on the bench. Schick is one of those young players who needs to be less tense.”
