Fiorentina Coach Stefano Pioli rues missed chances against Roma and shrugs off penalty controversy. “It can be given or not given.”
Jordan Veretout had put the Viola ahead from the spot after Giovanni Simeone went down easily, while Alessandro Florenzi volleyed in a poor clearance five minutes from time.
“It was a balanced and hard-fought game. When you play against such a strong opponent, you know they can score a goal at any moment,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia of the 1-1 draw.
“I can’t really complain about the lads, because we played with character and on level terms against a very strong Roma side.
“We were very dangerous in attack, but didn’t have the right determination or precision to finish off our chances and kill off the game.
“It was an unfortunate equaliser, as Alban Lafont deflected the cross and Florenzi put it in that tiny window of space he had to score.
“I think we had the right approach throughout the game.”
Pioli was asked about the controversial penalty award, where Simeone seemed to go down very easily after minimal contact with Robin Olsen.
“I prefer to talk about the game. As Florenzi said, it’s one of those situations you can give or not give.”
