Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker confessed he misses Roma and “my teammates know how strong Napoli are” in the Champions League.
The shot-stopper is in Italy this evening to attend the Gran Gala del Calcio, effectively the Italian version of the PFA Awards.
“I had a good season at Roma and it’s a pleasure for me to be here,” the Brazilian told Sky Sport Italia.
“Robin Olsen is doing very well, I watch the games that I can, although our fixtures often overlap. I miss Roma, but am very happy with the move that I made, which was professionally speaking very important for me and my family.”
A howler from Jordan Pickford at the weekend allowed Liverpool to beat local rivals Everton deep into stoppages.
“I usually don’t celebrate when there is such a big error from a colleague, but that game was a derby, it was too important and too right that we win at the 96th minute. I looked over and saw Jurgen Klopp in the middle of the pitch, so I let loose with the joy.”
Alisson is gearing up for the Champions League showdown against Napoli at Anfield.
“I know how strong Napoli are. All my Liverpool teammates got to know them too in the defeat at the San Paolo, so we know it won’t be easy, we must work very hard to win this game and get the result we need.
“It will be tough, but we have faith in our qualities and are already preparing for it.”
UEFA announced that VAR will be introduced from the Round of 16, but it is still a long way off in the Premier League.
“It’s not easy, as when there is an error, we think that it can be resolved with VAR, but then we continued to see many mistakes from referees at the World Cup too. The referees need to be better prepared and use the technology properly, as a goal can make a huge difference to a game and a season.”
