Only one Italian in UEFA team

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini is the only Italian included in UEFA’s 50 candidates for its Team of the Year.

Chiellini’s inclusion comes after a 2018 that saw him win another domestic double with Juve and become their captain after Gianluigi Buffon’s exit.

He is joined from the Old Lady by Miralem Pjanic, Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo, the latter of whom fired Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League last season.

Among the other Serie A stars are Roma pair Kostas Manolas and Edin Dzeko for their roles in the Giallorossi’s run to the semi-finals, as well as their former No 1 Alisson, and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

Users have until January 9 to vote for their ideal XI, before the Team of the Year is announced two days later.
