Florenzi: ‘Roma afraid of the ball’

Alessandro Florenzi said some of his Roma teammates are “afraid of the ball. We can’t keep embarrassing ourselves like this.”

The Giallorossi were already sure of second place in their group and Viktoria Plzen needed a win to secure their Europa League spot, but the 2-1 defeat was still deeply disappointing with their current form.

“I don’t think this is a problem for the defence alone, but for the whole team,” Florenzi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I know we can do better and we all want to give everything we’ve got. We were here to send a small signal and show how much we care for the club.

“I am not talking about the Coach or the players, but everyone at Trigoria and beyond must work in the same direction and give something more.

“It starts from the players, because we can’t keep embarrassing ourselves like this. We are disappointed and bitter, we’ve got to find a solution by any means possible.

“We must all be eager to play football, not be afraid of the ball. We could even throw every cross into the box, the important thing is to win. We’ve got to get fourth place in Serie A, that is our objective.”
