‘Samp not falling for Roma form’

Marco Giampaolo has asserted that Sampdoria are ‘not falling’ for Roma’s recent slump. “They have so much quality…”

Roma travel to Samp on the back of two defeats and a draw from their last three games, but Giampaolo is nonetheless expecting a tough test for his side, who need to respond themselves after losing to Torino last time out.

“Against Milan we had our most intense game of the season,” the Coach said at a Press conference for the match on Saturday.

“At Torino it was our least intense in almost all physiological respects: we reached the second game without the right legs or mentality.

“Tomorrow’s match will be added to those two and it’s another difficult game, but we must draw on all the resources we have because it’s an important appointment for us.

“This was an unusual week because we’ve played three times in seven days, but the next few matches will be played like normal.

“Playing must give us joy and we’ll have to face Roma with that in mind. I’m not falling for the Giallorossi’s recent results because they have so much quality.

“We’ll have to play to the fullest because it’s an important challenge. We’re three points away from them.

“We would’ve liked to have all our players available, but the team are equipped to make up for the absences.

“Caprari is recovering, Barreto’s started running again. Ekdal won’t be available tomorrow but I expect to have him back as soon as possible.

“Defrel will certainly be involved: he was initially out against Torino because he had given so much in our previous games and had to be managed.

“Gabbiadini has yet to find his feet, but he’s working well so he’ll find them eventually.

“Vieira can and must still improve, but he has great character and quality: from him I demand even more because I know he’s capable.”
