El Sha: Feud with Dzeko ‘history’

Stephan El Shaarawy insists his feud with Roma teammate Edin Dzeko is now a closed chapter and the pair are doing ‘fine now’.

El Shaarawy and Dzeko reportedly came close to blows in the heated aftermath of Roma’s 2-1 loss to SPAL in March.

However, the winger told Sky Sport Italia: “We’re fine now.

“We’re playing for the team. What happened is a closed chapter. Sometimes these things happen and there are arguments, but we’ve resolved our differences and we just want to focus on playing now.”

The Giallorossi host Cagliari in Serie A on Saturday, and the 26-year-old gave his views on what is shaping up to be an extremely tight race for the top four.

“Six to seven teams fighting for a place in the Champions League is something unusual, but so many teams have shown that they can compete right from the start of the season.

“There have been plenty of ups and downs as the top teams have dropped points, allowing some of the others the chance to gain ground.

“These final games will depend on who has the right mentality and experience and who has the right physical condition.”

El Shaarawy has scored 10 goals this season, hitting double figures for the first time since netting 16 back in the 2012-2013 campaign with Milan.

“Double figures mean a lot to me. I have found consistency and I’m happy, not only for goals, but for my performances too, I’ve worked hard to improve myself.”

Finally, he was asked for his thoughts on new Coach Claudio Ranieri and an update on contract negotiations.

“He is a wise and pragmatic Coach,” concluded the Italy international.

“We are following his lead and in the last three games, we have seen his work on the field.

“He asks us to put in a lot of work in both the defensive and offensive phases, but more so on the defensive side. He is making us more solid.

“I told the club I will talk about my future at the end of the season, but for now all I want to think about is getting into the Champions League.”
