Nainggolan: Could’ve done more…
Radja Nainggolan admits ‘I could’ve done more’ for Inter this season but assures he feels ‘young and strong’ going into the forthcoming campaign.
Nainggolan followed his former Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti to San Siro last summer, but injuries have limited the midfielder to just 34 appearances, five goals and three assists in 2018-19.
“I was hoping that I could’ve done more for the team this season, but the team have done well, and we are close to our objective of qualifying for next season’s Champions League,” he told Het Nieuwsblad.
“I always feel young and strong, but the injury I had at the start of the season has affected me throughout the campaign.
“Milan is very different to Rome. I can walk quietly down the street here, but in Rome it was impossible.
The 31-year-old has not played for Belgium since a friendly win against Saudi Arabia in March 2018, but he watched on as they finished third at last summer’s World Cup.
“I didn’t miss a single game played in Russia, it was incredible, an excellent result. I have always supported my teammates and I always will, but I would’ve liked to have been part of the national team.
“I would have liked an explanation, but no-one ever came to tell me why I was no longer being called up and that bothered me.
“I think it’s all very sad, but it’s important to me to be a man of my word. I said I wouldn’t play for Belgium again and I kept my word.”
