Roma winger Carles Perez says it’s difficult to explain his departure from Barcelona. “I don’t even know what happened.”
The 21-year-old Spaniard left the Catalan giants for the Giallorossi in the January transfer window, and gave a lengthy interview to Mundo Deportivo.
Perez scored his first goal for the club in the 1-0 win against Gent on Thursday evening.
“It was important for me, I am eager and confident, but I wasn’t sure if I could score,” Perez told the Spanish daily.
“I am very happy to be able to help the team to win after a few games. I hope to score more goals and create assists to help the team.”
Perez grew up in La Masia, Barca’s famed youth system, but his departure from the club wasn’t conducted in the correct manner, according to the player.
“My departure is difficult to explain, I don’t even know what happened.
“They didn’t give me the explanations they owed me, the coach told me that he didn’t count on me because there were other players in the squad, even if they told me this with only 10 days left to the closure of the transfer window.
“Barcelona is now my past, Roma is my present, and I want to be important here.”
Perez revealed that his departure still stings.
“It hurts more than anything. I’m a lad who gave everything for Barca, since childhood.
“My dream was to reach the first team, I joined them and then they stole it for no reason.
“They talk a lot of the ‘cantera’ but then they demonstrate the opposite. Anyway, I don’t have a bad view of Barcelona.
“I am grateful, even if I didn’t like what happened.”
The winger revealed he had numerous offers before choosing the Giallorossi.
“I had many offers from Germany, Italy and Spain, but the coach called me, and when he does so, it’s because he trusts you.
“He convinced me. The club and the city were fine with me, and I wasn’t wrong.
“I am happy to be here.”
