Lowest COVID-19 rates in two months

There were 165 deaths related to coronavirus in Italy over the last 24 hours, the lowest daily number in two months, but another 2,155 were given the all-clear.

Italy moved into Phase Two a week ago, but the curve continues to flatten significantly over the last few days.

The death toll dropped to 165, the lowest since 97 on March 9.

There were only 802 new positive cases, the lowest daily number since 778 on March 6, despite 51,678 swabs being taken since yesterday.

Another seven patients left intensive care and a further 2,155 were given the all-clear, meaning 105,186 people have now made a full recovery.

The death toll stands at 30,560 and there are currently 83,324 active positive cases in the country.

Several regions are almost free from coronavirus now, but Lombardy remains the epicentre with 282 new cases out of 7,369 tests and 62 deaths.
