HT: Roma 3-0 Verona

Three goals in nine minutes gave Roma a comfortable cushion after 30 minutes, as Verona struggled to keep up with the Giallrossi at the Olimpico.

With the new signings Stephan El Shaarawy and Bryan Reynolds in the stands with Edin Dzeko, the Giallorossi took to the pitch after a bizarre week.

But the Giallorossi seemed focused on the task in hand as they went straight on the attack, but Borja Mayoral couldn’t control the flick through by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Hellas Verona stopped Roma from putting their passes together in the early stages and mostly controlled the possession in the first 10 minutes.

Early concerns for La Lupa, as Chris Smalling limped off after 11 minutes and was replaced by former Verona defender Marash Kumbulla.

Roma grew into the game and Leonardo Spinazzola was involved at left, combining with Mkhitaryan and Borja Mayoral.

Eventually Roma broke the deadlock with a header from Gianluca Mancini after 20 minutes, the corner found the centre-back who had freed himself from his marker and the header across goal went past everyone and into the corner.

Mkhitaryan then doubled the lead only two minutes later, as Borja Mayoral was played through over the top and rounded the goalkeeper, but the tight angle made him square it the Armenian, who waited out the goalkeeper and sent him the wrong way.

As Adrien Tameze was calling for a penalty and contact as he went down in a duel with Roger Ibanez in the area, Roma come again.

Lorenzo Pellegrini with a great volley, gives Marco Silvestri enough trouble and the goalkeeper can’t hold it. On the rebound, Borja Mayoral is first to it and buries it to make it three before 30 minutes of play.

Three goals in nine minutes set the tone for the remainder of the half. Verona were trying to respond but were struggling to create any big chances against an inspired Giallorossi.
